Longfellow Hotel names GM ahead of autumn opening

US: Independent hotel operator and developer Uncommon Hospitality is set to open the Longfellow Hotel in Maine this September and has named Matt Plourde as general manager. Plourde will lead the hotel’s opening and will oversee the day-to-day operations, guest services, and community outreach initiatives. Prior to joining The Longfellow, Plourde held a senior role with Starbucks and was responsible for the company’s New England business units.

Solotel to extend government wage increase across workforce

Hospitality group Solotel has announced it will extend the 5.75 per cent wage increase to include staff not included in the award and minimum rates of pay. It comes after the Fair Work Commission’s announcement of a 5.75 per cent increase to Australia’s award and minimum rates of pay from 1 July. It will see the national minimum wage increased to $882.80 per week or $23.23 per hour, applied from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2023.

After hitting record lows during early points of the pandemic, last year finally presented long-awaited profitability returns for the U.S. hotel industry. Strong demand, coupled with strong pricing power in an inflationary environment, pushed revenues and profits beyond 2019 levels.
