MLA names Christina Pappas president/CEO

The Massachusetts Lodging Association (MLA) has named Christina Pappas as the president/CEO of the association. Pappas and her firm, Open the Door, succeed longtime MLA leader Paul Sacco, who served the association for more than 16 years.

Pappas brings 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry to MLA. Her firm, Open the Door, is a Boston-based marketing and association management firm that works with both national and international clients. Prior to founding Open the Door in 2001, Pappas served as director of international marketing for the Massachusetts Port Authority and director of marketing for the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority.

“Chris’ proven leadership ability in the hospitality industry, both in Massachusetts and around the country, coupled with her extensive experience with successful association management, and her proven ability to drive results makes her the ideal person to lead the MLA,” said Amy Finsilver, MLA board chair/GM, XV Beacon Hotel. “Chris will play a key role in shaping our narrative with our most critical constituencies and advocating for what’s in the best interest of our members. I have no doubt she will continue her track record of creating meaningful impact for the Massachusetts Lodging Association, its members and our industry. We are excited about the future of the MLA under her leadership.”

As a small business owner, Pappas understands the daily challenges facing businesses in today’s economic climate including recruiting and retaining staff, marketing and promoting business and supporting the needs of the industry, according to the association.

“The association has a long history of serving the lodging industry,” said Pappas. “My team and I are excited to continue that legacy. I look forward to advocating for a business-friendly environment on behalf of MLA where all properties can thrive and where our work can have a positive impact on the industry.”

The chief executive search was facilitated by Back 9 Consultants, whose partners have more than 50 years of association management experience in the hospitality industry.
