Michelle Obama’s long-awaited kids food show has a new title and a release date: Waffles + Mochi will debut on Netflix on March 16, the former first lady announced on social media this morning. “I’m excited for families and children everywhere to join us on our adventures as we discover, cook, and eat delicious food from all over the world,” her announcement continues. The show will consist of 10 20-minute episodes.

In the world of Waffles + Mochi, Obama is a friendly supermarket owner who embarks on culinary adventures with two Muppet-like creatures, Waffles and Mochi, who hail from “The Land of Frozen Food” and dream of becoming chefs. The characters will “blast off on global ingredient missions, traveling to kitchens, restaurants, farms and homes all over the world,” as well as cooking alongside renowned chefs, home cooks, celebrities, and kids. Some locations they will visit include the Peruvian Andes, where the hosts will be picking potatoes; Italy to sample spices; and Japan to make miso.

“These curious explorers uncover the wonder of food and discover every meal is a chance to make new friends,” reads one description.

Marketed as an original series for preschoolers, Waffles + Mochi appears to be the final iteration of what was previously titled Listen to Your Vegetables & Eat Your Parents in development, as Eater reported in 2019. The showrunners are Jeremy Konner, one of the creators of Drunk History, and actor/producer Erika Thormahlen. The production company is Higher Ground — the venture founded by the Obamas in partnership with Netflix — which recently announced a slate of new projects for the streaming company.
