De Vere has appointed Laurie Nicol and Alan Corlett as co-chief executive officers. Both have been with De Vere for over a decade, serving as chief operating officer and chief commercial officer respectively. James Burrell, the current CEO, will transition to the role of executive chairman. De Vere comprises historic mansion house estates and contemporary hotels around London, the southeast, and the Cotswolds, recently undergoing a multi-million-pound refurbishment of its country estate hotels. Nicol aims to drive operational excellence, focusing on ESG strategy, food and beverage, culture development, and strategic investments. Corlett will continue to emphasise revenue growth through sales and marketing, improving financial performance, and enhancing IT systems. Burrell expressed confidence in Nicol and Corlett’s leadership, anticipating continued growth.

The Leicester Arms in Penshurst, Kent, has reopened after a £1.2m refurbishment by owners Brakspear in partnership with the Little and Large Pub Company. Retaining its Grade II listed character, the pub now offers a relaxed environment for drinking and dining, along with upgraded boutique hotel-style accommodation. Menus feature seasonal and local ingredients, with highlights including steaks from the Robata grill. Value-conscious options like a set lunch and steak night are available. Brakspear CEO Tom Davies praised Little and Large operational expertise, expressing optimism for the pub’s success.

Cedar Court, a Yorkshire hotel group, has invested £500,000 in creating a new restaurant, Amber’s, at its flagship Harrogate hotel. The restaurant aims to offer a high-quality dining experience with traditional British dishes using Yorkshire and British Isles ingredients. The investment aligns with the hotel group’s strategy to elevate its dining offerings. Inspired by historical figure Lady Amber Fitzwilliam, the restaurant’s design reflects Harrogate’s hospitality history. The Imaginarium, a private dining venue, will accompany the restaurant. Cedar Court plans to recruit new talent and develop its existing team to meet increasing customer expectations.

Richardson Hotels announced the sale of The Falmouth Hotel in Falmouth and Abbey Sands Hotel in Torquay for £7.5m and £1.95m respectively. Owner Keith Richardson’s retirement strategy prompted the decision to divest these assets. Both hotels offer sea views and various amenities, including restaurants, bars, function rooms, and pools. The sales present an opportunity to acquire two well-established southwest hotels. James Greenslade of Savills anticipates strong interest in both properties.
