Studio Moren to refurbish Kensington boutique hotel

UK: Architecture and design firm Studio Moren has won planning permission to refurbish and extend a boutique hotel on London’s Kensington High Street for JMK Group.

The project will see the addition of 30 guest rooms, including an extension to the rooftop in order to maximise the accommodation offer.

A reconfiguration of the exciting hotel bedrooms will also provide en-suite facilities and improved interiors.

The existing coffee shop and stationary store will be preached with an open lobby, a cafe, delicatessen and eatery, open to both guests and the public.

Mark Wood, partner at Studio Moren, said: “This was a complicated and exciting project, in a conservation area, next to a listed building and in a prominent corner position.

“Successive alterations over time had significantly altered the character of the existing building; our design approach for this scheme therefore seeks to not only significantly improve the quality and layout of the interior but also to improve the building’s character by returning it, where possible, to its original appearance and to further enhance its appearance with modest, sensitive, contemporary new build extensions.”

JMK Group is a family-run hospitality group with hotels across the UK and Ireland along with residential properties and coffee houses.
