The Old Railway Hotel let to new tenant

The new tenant, Mohamed Aktaruzzaman, is an experienced multiple operator who owns several other businesses in London and Horsham

The Old Railway Hotel, a country pub and hotel in the village of Porton, in Wiltshire, has been let to a new tenant.

The new tenant, Mohamed Aktaruzzaman, is an experienced multiple operator who owns several other businesses in London and Horsham.

The eight-bedroom hotel was purchased in 2021 by a small community consortium, who heavily invested in the business and brought it back to life.

With the right tenant, the group sought to “ensure the business remains at the heart of the local community”.

They said: “We are pleased that The Old Railway Hotel has a new long-term tenant which will keep the hotel, restaurant and public house alive and thriving for decades to come.

“Mohammad Aktaruzzaman and the existing team have lots of experience and fantastic ideas for TORH. We have achieved what we set out to do two and a half years ago which was to save the local community venue, become a local employer and keep it going long-term.”

Aktaruzzaman said: “It was a very smooth transaction. I’m very happy with the way Christie and Co has handled everything.”

Richard Wood, regional director at Christie and Co, who handled the sale, added: “I am delighted to have completed the successful letting of The Old Railway Hotel in Porton to experienced multiple operators, who will no doubt continue the business’s recent success. This letting illustrates the continued demand we are seeing in 2023 for free of tie leasehold licence businesses throughout the South.”
