Whitbarrow Resort achieves Green Key accreditation status

The Green Key accreditation has only been handed out to 4,000 hotels and resorts across 60 countries

Whitbarrow Resort, owned by Luxury Lodges, has announced that it has received Green Key accreditation status as a result of its sustainability work.

Green Key accreditation celebrates the standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism and leisure industry.

Whitbarrow has been awarded this status due to the resorts’ involvement in initiatives, such as partnerships with local charities including Cumbria Family Support.

It also has relationships with local suppliers to source bike hire for guests and some food and beverage products, as well as working with a local red squirrel ranger to install new squirrel boxes.

Allison Ogden-Newton, CEO of Keep Britain Tidy which runs the scheme, said: “We are delighted to award Luxury Lodges’ Whitbarrow Resort the Green Key certification. This award proves that luxury and sustainability can go hand in hand, meaning travellers do not have to compromise in order to curb their carbon impact.”

The Green Key accreditation has only been handed out to 4,000 hotels and resorts across 60 countries.
