UK: Citadines Islington, a former Royal Mail sorting office, is the second aparthotel in London to achieve EDGE certification under The Ascott Limited.

Citadines Islington offers 108 serviced apartments, a residents lounge and breakfast area, a business corner, fitness space, and a laundry room.

The property has undergone a retrofit including the installation of energy efficient cooling systems, internal wall insulation, new windows with thermal energy retention, and low flow taps, shower heads, high efficiency A/C system, and 100 per cent LED lighting.

According to the EDGE report after the retrofits were made, Citadines Islington will save 42 per cent on energy, 28 per cent on water, and 98 per cent on “less embodied energy in materials”.

Using the EDGE app, Citadines will make further improvements to the property by Q1 2024.

Frédéric Carré, regional general manager UK, Germany, Belgium, Georgia and Spain, The Ascott, said: “We have committed to undertake EDGE certification across our London portfolio in order to manage our emission reduction targets. The EDGE green building standard focuses on data, which we can use for our sustainability reporting and to map out our progress in achieving net zero goals.

“This is one of many sustainable initiatives Ascott is undertaking to improve its environmental impact across its building portfolio and will contribute by ensuring we are saving as much energy as possible and retrofitting our older buildings to come up to today’s standards,” he added.

Earlier this year, Citadines Holborn achieved EDGE accreditation and reduced its energy by 36 per cent. Citadines Barbican will be next in line.
