Greenport, NY— Oshibori hot towel on arrival. Breathtaking views from a rooftop deck and bar overlooking the coastline; ideal for morning coffee and yoga classes, oyster shucking, fireside S’more’s, and evening cocktails. Galley kitchens on each floor featuring local eats and pastries that are re-stocked three times a day. Concierge-packed picnic baskets filled with delicious cheeses, snacks and local wine to enjoy on area beaches or rocky cliffs. An open-air Moke electric house car at guests’ disposal to transport them to local farms, restaurants, wineries/vineyards, breweries/distilleries, private boating/sailing charters, and pottery/art classes.

These are the unique and upscale experiences that today’s travelers say they want and appreciate – and it is why The Menhaden was named “Best Hotel of the North Fork” for a second consecutive year.

Mario Corrado, general manager of the independent luxury boutique hotel located in the heart of Greenport Village on the Long Island Sound coastline – a quick ride from NYC by ferry, train, Jitney, boat, or car – said the hotel is flourishing and setting the standard for luxury boutiques hotels across the country and the pond.

Our goal is to become a destination for travelers everywhere, Corrado said. Earning this title last year put The Menhaden on the map; we began seeing a large uptick in visitors coming from outside NYC. Guests were visiting us from all over New England, the tri-state area, and even Europe. Maintaining this honor for a second year, we expect this trend to continue. Even the shoulder months will feel like busy season with booking showing no signs of slowing.

Rooms and suites at The Menhaden are dressed to impress, with a chic palette of whites, blacks, and neutrals, Restoration Hardware furnishings, high-thread-count linens, spacious bathrooms, and other tasteful detailing. Yet it’s the curated experiences that are truly making this elegant “cottage by the sea” a destination that people crave.

Experiences for Everyone

Guests of The Menhaden can be Oyster Farmers one day and Whiskey Thievers or Wine Makers the next. Through partnerships with local businesses, such as Matchbook Distilling and the North Fork Art Center, the hotel is continually developing new packages that will take experiential travel to new heights.

For example, a new “Midweek Maker” program is enabling guests to learn how to properly nose and taste spirits and dive into the science of distilling. Monday through Thursday, now through December 27, 2023, guests can tour Matchbook Distilling’s Apothecary, then blend their own hand-crafted 750 ml bottle of gin to take home. Soon the hotel will announce fall programs with NFAC – a place where people can come together to be entertained, educated, and inspired by world cinema, live performances, fine art exhibitions, lecture series, and hands-on arts training.
