Annandale Arms Hotel brought to market for £575k

Originally called the Kings Arms Hotel, the property was built in 1760 and has been a fixture in the town for over 260 years

The historic Annandale Arms Hotel in Moffat, Scotland, has been brought to market for a guide price of £575,000, following the current owner’s decision to retire.

The three-star hotel has 16 en-suite bedrooms and an oak panelled bar which seats up to 30, as well as a large 40-cover restaurant. The property also has two meeting rooms, with the largest seating up to 120 and the smaller room hosting as many as 35.

Originally called the Kings Arms Hotel, the property was built in 1760 and has been a fixture in the town for over 260 years. The hotel is set across four floors and a basement in the centre of Moffat town.

The current owner, Margaret Tweedie, has managed the establishment with her family for 26 years, but is putting the hotel on the market in order to start her retirement.

Moffat itself benefits from being almost equidistant between Carlisle, Edinburgh and Glasgow which has made it a popular destination for visitors. Close to the hotel are golf courses, places to fish and ample routes for hill walkers and ramblers to explore in the nearby Tweedsmuir foothills.

The hotel currently benefits from tourist as well as business travel trade, and has around 15 spaces in a rear car park, as well as free parking at the front.

As well as 16-letting rooms there are also additional bedrooms, and self-contained flats in the upper floors which are currently used for storage, but could be repurposed as staff quarters, or renovated into additional letting rooms.

Robert Smithson, hotel agency team member at Colliers, said: “After a very successful 26 years, the current owner of the Annandale Arms Hotel is looking forward to a well-earned retirement and we are pleased to bring this property, which is a feature of the town centre, to the market.

“The hotel is an ideal opportunity for those wanting to start out in hospitality and there is also ample scope to grow the business, by adding more bedrooms and extending the services offered not only to overnight customers but local residents.”
