US: The planning commission has approved a zoning request for the construction of a proposed Marriott TownePlace Suites extended stay hotel in Painesville, Ohio.

The zoning request is for the Brookstone Boulevard, along the city’s border with Mentor on Diamond Centre Drive, at the western end of the city. Bucyrus Lodging, a Fremont-based company, plans to open a 96-suite hotel in the summer of 2024.

The site is part of a proposed planned unit development that was first approved in 2002 and revised in 2019. City planning consultant Rita McMahon said that the property “was initially designed to be an office industrial area.” She added that the city staff believed the hotel would fit it’s intended use. The requests were unanimously approved by the planning commission to allow the hotel and its proposed road layout.

TownePlace Suites locations have a kitchen, grill, complimentary breakfast, fitness centre, pool, business area, free wifi and laundry space. The chain is also pet friendly.

Aashish Patel, the owner of Bucyrus Lodging, Inc., said that an extended stay is a reservation that is longer than five nights, with a lower nightly rate for longer reservations. He said that he is aware of people who have stayed in extended stay hotels for three to four months.

Bucyrus Lodging representative Yush Chandat said that guests can include families displaced by fires or people on business trips.
