Neighbourhood Wine and Old Palm Liquor’s Almay Jordaan and Simon Denman have launched their latest venture – Bahama Gold.

The Brunswick East venue is open for walk-ins only, with 12 seats at the bar up for grabs.

Wines are mostly sourced from minimal-intervention makers, with the team constantly switching out glasses and bottles according to availability – but expect plenty of rare drops and intel from the bar team.

“We want our customers to actively engage with the environment when they come in,” says Denman.

“There are no paper menus – to discover the offerings you have to look and listen, whether that’s reading the handwritten drinks menu on the wall, chatting to whoever is behind the bar about preferences or simply pausing to enjoy the vinyl soundtrack curated by our team each shift.”

The current wine offering covers 2021 Sextant ‘Foufou’nette’ Vin Mousseux Extra Brut Aligoté/Apricots; 2021 Jean Bouteille Wines ‘Ronin’ (Skin-Org-Min) Pinot Gris and 2020 Igavi Wines ‘Orebluri Ojaleshi’ Orebluri Ojaleshi.

There’s also beers and non-alcoholic options on offer plus a snappy menu of snacks and small plates courtesy of the chefs from Old Palm Liquor next door.

The space is decked out with a sound system from the US that plays a strictly vinyl lineup from a library of more than 500 records.

Patrons can grab a bottle to go from the fridge, too or enjoy it in-venue with corkage.

Bahama Gold is open from midday until 12am daily.
