Moxy Hotels opens new site in Plymouth

The opening of Moxy Plymouth marks the 15th Moxy Hotel in the UK for management company Hotel Co 51

Moxy Hotels, the experiential hotel brand part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of 30 extraordinary brands, has today (13 June 2023) opened its 200-room Moxy Plymouth hotel.

The new site is the second Moxy in the south-west of England, located within the new multi-million regeneration area at Millbay.

The new property’s design takes inspiration from the historic docks, built by the Isambard Kingdom Brunel in 1844.

The hotel’s nautically designed lobby was inspired by the area’s maritime history.

The walls of the hotel are covered with murals depicting local landmark Smeaton’s Tower as well as ships and fishing scenes.

The hotel features dark blue and subdued neutral tones and lighting created using fishing nets and a star constellation on the ceiling.

Guestrooms are mapped out to maximise on storage, alongside leather headboards, walk-in showers and a smart-work area.

The hotel also features a 24-hour gym, an all-day snack menu and a bar which serves a range of hand-crafted cocktails, wines and spirits including a selection of local gins and beers.

The bar doubles as the check-in desk and is where all guests receive a complimentary signature mocktail or cocktail on arrival.

As with all Moxy hotels, the hotel is dog-friendly and parking is also available onsite.

The opening of Moxy Plymouth marks the 15th Moxy Hotel in the UK for management company Hotel Co 51.

James Gardiner, hotel manager at Moxy Plymouth, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to be opening the first Marriott International property in Plymouth and to introduce the Moxy spirit to Devon.

“We’ve built an incredible team to work in the hotel who come with a wealth of experience and talent. We’ve already started connecting with the local community and are excited to be the headline sponsor for this year’s British Firework Championships that will be held at Plymouth Hoe in mid-August. The annual event draws crowds of over 100,000 people where pyrotechnic companies will compete over two days.”

Wayne Androliakos, regional director for UK Operations for Hotel Co 51 who manages the property, added: “We’re extremely proud to be part of the Millbay regeneration project. Our partners Vastint were one of the first major investors to make their mark by building a hotel here and together we could see the potential that the site would bring. It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring our playful hotel, showcasing this fantastic, growing independent quarter.”
