After closing the doors to Saga in Sydney’s Enmore over the weekend, Andy Bowdy has announced what’s next: Salma’s Canteen.
The Rosebery eatery will open on 12 July and is a collaboration between Saga’s Bowdy and Maddison Howes and Kepos Street Kitchen’s Michael Rantissi and Kristy Frawley.
Salma’s is a “one-stop shop” for visitors, who will be able to enjoy sweet options from Bowdy as well as seasonal salads, vegetables, and proteins by Rantissi, who will source ingredients from the Carriageworks Markets.
There will be a selection of sandwiches, dips, and salads to go, with visitors also able to assemble their own sweet creations at home using Bowdy’s shortcrust pastry and fruit curds.
“Everyone who loves food has a Salma in their life – a feeder and nourisher who brings people together to eat and talk, sending them home piled with leftovers,” says Rantissi.
“Salma’s Canteen is the new Salma in your life – a one-stop shop that’s part kitchen, part takeaway, part diner, and part shop.”
The venue is a full-circle moment for Bowdy, who began his career in the kitchen working alongside Rantissi at Pink Salt.
“Michael and I have very similar philosophies in terms of food – we both love fresh, vibrant food and celebrating ingredients that are in season,” says Bowdy.
“Salma’s Canteen is a food wonderland where you can buy and eat amazing food made with the best ingredients.”
The venue has indoor and outdoor seating and will open Tuesday to Saturday from 11am until 7am and on Sunday from 10am until 4pm.
