Diageo Australia has announced its new managing director after confirming Angus McPherson will leave the business in September this year.

Dan Hamilton will move into the position after 13 years working for Diageo in a number of senior roles that has seen him work across markets in China and Europe as well as Japan and Korea.

“In 2016, Dan took up the role of general manager Diageo Japan where he drove a step change in execution making it one of the fastest-growing Scotch businesses in Diageo and winning significant market share across all categories,” says Diageo Asia Pacific President John O’Keeffe.

“As managing director for Korea and Japan, Dan successfully led the acceleration of growth for our Korea business and turbocharged the premiumisation of the portfolio.

“We know Dan’s deep knowledge of the business, his relationships within the industry, and his strategic insights will set him up well to continue Diageo Australia’s strong growth trajectory.”

McPherson’s departure was confirmed in June, with the current managing director exiting the business to pursue an opportunities outside the company.

Diageo is a leading global alcohol company behind some of the most recognisable brands including Smirnoff, Ketel One, Johnnie Walker, Tanqueray, Baileys, and Don Julio.
