Sydney hospitality group Esca have confirmed Cuckoo Callay Surry Hills will close its doors on 11 June.
The city-side cafe was the second Cuckoo Callay location — with the original launching in Newtown back in 2013 — before the Surry Hills branch arrived on the dining scene almost six years ago.
But the group have decided it’s time for a change and will debut a new Japanese concept called Ito later this year.
“It’s bittersweet to bid farewell to Cuckoo Callay,” says Esca Co-Founder Ibby Moubadder.
“However, we do believe it’s time to embark on a new adventure that pushes the boundaries and challenges the ordinary.
“We’re so excited to revitalise this space and redefine our presence in Surry Hills, creating an exciting and unique experience that will resonate with our loyal community and the people of Sydney.”
The cafe will go all out in the coming weeks and bring back some of its most popular dishes before closing including the MacDaddy croissant with bacon and mac and cheese as well as lemon and white chocolate hot cakes and lamb rendang roti tacos.
Cuckoo Callay Surry Hills is open seven days a week until 3pm for walk-ins and bookings.
