$17,000 in penalties for regional Victorian cafe

The operators of Cafe 3564 in Echuca, Victoria, have been hit with a slew of penalties for failing to back-pay a visa holder. The former cook worked at the cafe from July 2017 to September 2019, with Fair Work Ombudsman inspectors investigating after receiving a request for assistance from the worker. Inspectors formed the belief the employee had been underpaid minimum wage rates, overtime, penalty rates and more, going on to issue a compliance notice in October 2020.

Potato shortage set to cost pubs up to $500,000

Pub operators across Australia could be hit hard by a nationwide potato shortage, with some larger pub groups anticipating increased costs of around $500,000. Suppliers have cited floods, fires and severe weather along with international shortages, supply chain and transport issues as the cause of the problem. Australia’s supply of potatoes has been decimated causing many products to be removed from supply chains and costs to potentially soar.

California Amends Franchise Law: What Restaurants Need to Know

These provisions will apply to franchise agreements entered into, amended or renewed on or after January 1, 2023. If the amendment was initiated by the franchisee and the amendment does not adversely impact the franchisee’s rights, that amendment is not subject to AB 676.
