The UK and Ireland’s travel industry has rebounded, with a 14% year-on-year increase in Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR) during the summer months. Average occupancy rose by 2% to over 70%, and Average Daily Rate (ADR) increased by 17% to £211. June stood out as the strongest month, with a 23% increase in RevPAR to £25. Online check-ins surged, with 25% of guests using this feature, and the proportion of guests upgrading during online check-in doubled year-on-year, adding an average of £18 per upgraded reservation. Breakfast was the most popular upsell, followed by early check-in and late checkout.

Furthermore, 20% of hotels diversified their revenue by selling additional bookable spaces, a 27% increase from summer 2022 levels. These spaces generated an average of £167 extra per reservation, particularly parking spots, which brought in an average of £2,900 per month, up from £2,490 in 2022.

James Horn, previously with D&D London, has been appointed as the new food and beverage director at The Cumberland. The hotel, with 900 bedrooms and a rebranded F&B offering called Sound Cafe, Bar, and Sports Bar, will benefit from Horn’s 15 years of industry experience. He will oversee expansion efforts, and his appointment coincides with the hotel’s transition from The Hard Rock Hotel back to its original identity as The Cumberland.

This promotion recognises his significant contributions to the hotel’s team dynamics, guest satisfaction, and commercial performance during its rebranding process.
