The annual The World’s 50 Best Bars list has been announced this week at a live awards ceremony in Singapore.
Sydney’s Maybe Sammy made the list for the fifth time, coming in at number 15 and also awarded the title of The Best Bar in Australasia.
“Vince and I continue to be humbled by the support, respect and love the industry and our guests have for Maybe Sammy,” says co-founder Stefano Catino.
“We are so honoured The World’s 50 Best Bars continue to recognise the hard efforts of the team and are so happy that they consider us to be the best bar in Australia for the fifth year in a row.”
Melbourne’s Caretaker’s Cottage also made their debut on the list coming in at number 23.
They were the only two Aussie venues to make the list, with Barcelona’s Sips taking out top spot to be awarded The World’s Best Bar and also The Best Bar in Europe.
“As the brainchild of cocktail-world icons Marc Álvarez and Simone Caporale, Sips was destined for greatness even before it rocketed into the list at No.37 just a few short months after opening in 2021,” says 50 Best Bars Director of Content William Drew.
“The bar seamlessly translates contemporary innovation and technical precision into a playful cocktail programme, accompanied by the warmest hospitality, making it a worthy winner of The World’s Best Bar 2023 title.”
Other awards throughout the evening included the Roku Industry Icon which went to Renato ‘Tato’ Giovannoni of Florería Atlántico in Buenos Aires; and the Campari One to Watch to Lima’s Lady Bee.
The Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award was awarded to Stockholm’s Röda Huset; and the Siete Misterios Best Cocktail Menu was taken out by The American Bar at Gleneagles in Auchterarder, Scotland.
The list featured venues from 28 cities with 11 new entries including Seoul’s Zest which was awarded the Disaronno Highest New Entry Award with its place at number 18.
The annual list is judged by 680 independent drinks specialists, including bartenders, drinks writers, educators, and consultants.
