Meliá Hotels International appoints new CFO

Ángel Luis Rodríguez has held various positions in financial management and project development in different companies within the hotel industry, both in Spain and abroad

Meliá Hotels International has announced the appointment of Ángel Luis Rodríguez Mendizábal, vice president of joint ventures and portfolio management in the real estate area, as the new chief financial officer.

The previously appointed chief financial officer, Sonia Jerez Burdeus, is stepping down from her role due to personal reasons, the hotel group has said.

Rodríguez, who has a solid track record in the company, joined the group in 2004. Before that, he held various positions in financial management and project development in different companies within the hotel industry, both in Spain and abroad.

In line with this change and following the current structure of the senior executive team and the company’s strategic plan focused on digital transformation, the company is also merging the information technology (IT) Department, which until now was part of the finance area, with the digitalisation department, which is part of the strategy area.

Meliá’s Chairman and CEO, Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, said: “Appointing Ángel Luis Rodríguez as the new CFO brings a combination of the company’s culture and values and a comprehensive knowledge of the organisation and its financial needs, both in terms of the group and its key partners in the different joint ventures.

“He also has broad expertise in the real estate market and a thorough understanding of all aspects of the business and corporate areas. He is highly regarded in the market and the financial and real estate fields. And so, we would like to thank Sonia Jerez for having been part of our executive team and are thrilled to welcome the company’s new chief financial officer.”
